Comedy vs Climate Change is a comedy project that aims to raise awareness of climate issues and funds for environmental causes. We work with writers, comedians and performers across the UK and beyond to create climate comedy and web content that intersects with environmentalism and political activism.

Climate change is a total fucking disaster. It’s a crisis which continues to be propelled by a small number of corporations making hideous amounts of money by harming vulnerable people and exploiting natural resources.

Activists have been demanding climate justice for years, BUT (and it is a big but 🍑) these calls for real and systemic change are still often ignored, sidelined or worse (cue Hermione Granger) – ridiculed. 🤬 Like that joke, the political apathy is getting old.

But luckily –and contrary to popular opinion– environmentalists actually do have a sense of humour (!!) Comedy helps us face our collective demons, and social justice activists have been using it as a tool in protest for literal ~years~. Recently this has manifested in anti-racist comedians roasting Karens, drag and cabaret artists literally ‘Becoming Donald Trump’, and some truly INSPIRED climate justice slogans and memes. 👏

Following in the footsteps of the many incredible activists before us, our aim is to organise a community of 🔥 people who care deeply about intersectional environmentalism. This is the 21st century, and if environmentalism isn’t actively intersectional – it is trash. And we can all agree that we don’t need any more of that, TA.

Whether you’re a writer, performer, activist, or a newcomer, we hope you feel welcome among this network of comics and content, and find something to fill the void (lmao) 🙃

– whether its a deeper understanding of climate politics, some eco life #inspo for your mood boards, or just a good old-fashioned lol. And please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any ~zAnY~ ideas or projects you might want to collaborate on – we’re always looking to learn and grow. 🌱

We can’t wait to journey with you to the year 3000, look our great-great granddaughters in the eyes (admit they’re pretty fine) and, at the very least, say we tried. Thank u for coming to our TedTalk.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

Alison founded Comedy vs Climate Change when she realised the political power that comedy can hold – for better or worse. As a comedian studying for a PhD in laughter, she likes to use comedy to approach topics that usually make people anxious – because a joke, like a well-timed tequila shot, can help take the edge off a bit. 🍸Also she isn’t really qualified to do anything else.

The project hosted its first gig in November 2018 and another in February 2019, which were both total sell-outs, despite Alison’s lack of marketing and graphic design skills. 🤔 It was clear that other people were vibing the approach too, and these early halcyon nights lured in our now belovèd collaborator Rosie.

Rosie performed her debut stand-up set at the first Comedy vs Climate Change night and, in doing so, she discovered that trying to make people laugh is way scarier than the climate crisis ever will be. Yet still she came back for Round 2 on our February night (albeit late), wearing a cape and laden with props, and a climate comedy queen was born. 👑

Rosie is deathly afraid of technology but is somehow in charge of marketing and social media for Comedy vs Climate Change. Since she believes wifi to be sorcery, don’t expect your average newsletter… 📧 ✨

And last but not least there’s Tilly, our resident climate justice warrior and Research Editor. In between hitting the books she spent some of her time at university campaigning for fossil fuel divestment, which included publicly coating herself in fake oil. Twice. 🪧

Now though, she has bigger capitalism-sized fish to fry. While her dream is a socialist green new deal for all, her reality is editing a comedy and climate website with her unbearable arty mates, baby steps! 💭♻️
